Hey Everyone, I’ve noticed that as winter approaches, I don’t hear crickets chirping anymore. Do they just go somewhere else, or what happens to them?
They don’t actually go away, they just become less active or enter a state called diapause, which is similar to hibernation.
That’s right! Some crickets lay eggs in the soil which won’t hatch until spring. The adults mostly die off when it gets cold.
Fascinating! So it’s not that they go away, but more like they’re just on pause for a while.
