Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with random bugs popping up in my room lately—mostly tiny crawlers and the occasional flying visitor. I’m wondering if keeping my room colder would help reduce how often they show up. I’ve heard some insects slow down or avoid cooler spaces, but I’m not sure how true that actually is.
I’ve noticed fewer bugs when I crank the AC, especially in summer. They’re not fans of chilly air, that’s for sure.
Cold slows some of them down, but it won’t stop them completely. If they’re already inside, they’ll just move slower.
I tried dropping my room to like 65°F for a week. Didn’t eliminate them, but I definitely saw fewer fruit flies hanging around.
@ChillFactorTom It works a bit, but only for certain bugs. Moisture and food crumbs matter way more than temperature.
Keeping it cold helped with spiders for me, they just stopped showing up as much. Might’ve been a coincidence though.
If anything, cold just makes me miserable. Bugs didn’t seem to care as long as they had places to hide.
Try combining cooler temps with better airflow. Bugs hate drafts even more than cold.
@AtticMaple Totally agree. I cleaned my room aggressively and suddenly the bug issue dropped way more than when I tried freezing myself.
Some insects avoid AC rooms because it dries the air out. Humidity plays a big role too.
I keep my room cold mostly for sleep, and as a bonus I hardly see any gnats anymore. So it’s not a perfect fix, but it kinda helps.
