Why Isn’t My Outdoor Spider Spray Working Anymore?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using the same outdoor spider spray around my porch and fence line for a couple of months now, and it used to work great. But lately, it feels like the spiders are ignoring it—or worse, walking right across the treated areas like it’s nothing.

Yeah, heat waves can break that stuff down quick. I had the same issue, worked fine in spring, but summer basically cooked it off in a week.

Check where the webs are forming. If they’re building above or around the treated lines, they might not actually be touching the spray at all. Spiders are sneaky like that.

This happened to me after a few heavy storms. The rain washed off more than I expected. I had to reapply way sooner than the label suggested.

@PorchDweller12 Totally agree. UV light can break down outdoor treatments fast. If your porch gets direct sun, that could explain the drop in effectiveness.

Sometimes the issue isn’t the spray, it’s the food. If you’ve got a ton of other bugs around, the spiders won’t leave no matter what. Fix the bug problem and the spiders move on.

I started cleaning webs before spraying and it made a big difference. Leaving old webs up seemed to attract new spiders like it was reserved seating.

If you have mulch near your home, check that area. Spiders love hiding in there, and they’ll keep coming back no matter what you put on the walls.

@BackyardBen Did you switch brands recently? I swapped once and the second one didn’t stick to the siding as well. It ran down after watering the garden.

I found that spraying in the evening works better than doing it mid-day. The product sets without baking in the heat, so it lasts longer.

Try trimming vegetation touching your house. I didn’t realize spiders were using my overgrown shrubs as a walkway straight onto the siding.
