Why are honey bees attracted to light?

Anyone know why honey bees seem to be attracted to light sources?

It’s their natural instinct. Bees usually navigate by the sun, so I guess artificial lights can trick them at night.

But why don’t they recognize it’s not the sun? Can’t they tell the difference?

Well, their eyes are attuned to patterns of light rather than sources. They’re not built to navigate at night, so they get confused.

Interesting convo! I’ve observed bees around my porch light and always wondered about this. So, it’s kinda like a false signal for them?
