Where to Put Rat Traps: Top Tips from the Pros!

Hey everyone!

I’ve been dealing with a bit of a rat problem in my garage, and I’ve started looking into traps as a solution. I wanted to reach out and ask for tips on where to strategically place rat traps for maximum effectiveness.

From what I’ve gathered, it seems like location is key for catching these little pests. I’ve heard that placing traps near their nesting areas or along their regular travel routes can increase the odds of a catch. However, I’m also worried about safety, especially with pets around.

Hey DryDogDude! Great topic! I’ve had a similar issue, and I’ve learned that placing traps along walls is super effective. Rats tend to travel close to edges rather than crossing open spaces.

I totally agree with you, HomeHelperHank! I found that placing traps behind appliances (like the fridge) has yielded great results for me. Just watch out for any cords or potential hazards!

I’ve had the best success with snap traps. They’re quick and avoid the mess of glue traps. Just be sure to use peanut butter as bait, they can’t resist it!

Hey everyone! Just jumping in to say that I use live traps. I know some people don’t like the idea, but I prefer to catch and release. I place mine in dark corners or near food sources.

@NatureLover64, I like the live trap idea, but it can be tricky to prevent pets from getting to them. I always put mine in an enclosed space, like a garage cabinet, where only the rats can fit.

Just wanted to share my two cents on this! I usually set traps in pairs at entry points, so if one doesn’t work, there’s a backup close by.

I had a major success with that method, @SafePawsOnly! I caught three rats in one night using a two-trap setup by my trash cans. Just make sure to check them daily!

Hey all, I’ve read that rats are more active at night, so setting traps in the evening and checking them in the morning gives the best chance for a catch.

Good point, @MightyMouser! I’ve also placed traps near my garden shed, and I caught a couple that way. They were definitely raiding my plants!
