Where Do Pantry Moths Even Lay Their Eggs?

Hey everyone,

Okay, I’m seriously losing it over these pantry moths. I clean, I wipe, I toss half my groceries—yet somehow they keep coming back. I know they start as eggs, but where are they even laying them? Inside food? On packaging? Somewhere I haven’t checked?
Before I tear my entire kitchen apart, I’m hoping someone here has firsthand experience or tips on finding (and destroying) the source.

They usually lay eggs right on dry food or the seams of packages. I once found them hiding under the little folded flap on a cereal box. Totally traumatizing.

Check your spices too. People always forget those. I opened a jar of paprika once and… yeah… never the same again.

Honestly, they’re sneaky. They squeeze into ANY tiny gap. I found eggs inside a sealed bag of rice because the corner wasn’t heat-sealed perfectly.

If you haven’t already, throw out things like flour, nuts, grains, and even tea. Those are their favorites. Store replacements in glass jars ASAP.

I swear they target stressed people. The worse my week is, the more moths show up. Total conspiracy.
But yeah—look under shelf liners. Mine were nesting there.

@BuggedOutBarry Same! I lifted a liner once and it looked like a tiny moth daycare. If you haven’t checked under those yet, do it before bed so you can’t overthink it all day.

They’ll also lay eggs in cracks of wooden shelves. I had to sand mine lightly and seal them because they kept hiding inside the grooves.

@KitchenChaos101 Good call mentioning packaging seams. That one corner fold on pasta boxes gets everyone. I found a cocoon stuck inside the little window.

Something people forget: pet food. Dry kibble is basically a moth buffet. Check that too.

I beat mine by moving EVERYTHING into airtight containers and tossing anything questionable. Haven’t seen a moth in months.
@PantryPain88 Hang in there, once you find the “source item,” the situation gets way easier.
