What traps actually work on carpet beetles?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been noticing carpet beetles around my home recently and started looking into traps. There seem to be a few different options out there, like sticky traps and pheromone traps, but it’s not always clear which ones actually help.

From what I’ve read, some traps are mainly used to monitor activity rather than completely solve the problem. Still, they might help identify where beetles are coming from and whether things are improving.

For those who have dealt with carpet beetles before, what traps worked for you in real situations? Did you notice certain placements or types working better than others?

Pheromone traps worked for me, but mostly to see where the activity was happening.

Same here. I placed a few sticky traps near closets and caught a few beetles.

@SophiaLane Did you put them near carpets or more near storage areas?

Mostly closets and under furniture. That’s where I saw them before.

From what I learned, traps mostly catch adult males, not the larvae causing damage.

Yeah that’s why vacuuming regularly helped me more than just traps.

I tried regular glue traps and they did catch some beetles walking around.

Placement is huge. Along baseboards and under furniture worked best for me.

@ToolBenchAaron I did the same and noticed more beetles in traps near windows actually.

Honestly traps helped confirm the problem, but cleaning and removing sources made the biggest difference.
