What to Do If You Smell Chemicals After Bug Bombing a Car

Hey everyone,

I used a bug bomb in my car a couple of days ago and followed the instructions carefully. I let it sit, aired it out, and even drove with the windows down.

But I can still smell a faint chemical odor inside the vehicle.

Is this normal? Should I be worried about residue or long-term exposure? What steps should I take if the smell doesn’t go away?

Appreciate any advice.

A slight smell can linger for a few days, especially in fabric seats.

If you still notice it strongly, I’d ventilate again and park it in direct sunlight.

Did you wipe down hard surfaces afterward? Sometimes residue on plastic keeps the odor around.

@FreshRideConcern How long did you ventilate it the first time?

Air it out longer than you think necessary. Cars trap smells easily.

Professional detailing can help if the smell really won’t fade.

I had this happen once. It faded after about a week.

@DetailQueen That’s true. Deep cleaning the upholstery can make a big difference.

If the smell is causing irritation (eyes/throat), I wouldn’t ignore that.

Thanks everyone. I’ll try another round of ventilation and wipe-down before considering detailing.
