Hi everyone!
Last night, I heard scratching noises in my attic and found mouse droppings near the insulation. I’m freaking out! I set up a few snap traps, but I’m worried there’s a whole family up there. I don’t want to use poison because of my dog, and the attic is cramped with stored boxes.
Mice can chew through wires, spread diseases, and multiply quickly. My attic has old insulation and small gaps near the roof vents. I need safe, effective solutions to eliminate them without harming my pets or making the problem worse.
Start with snap traps baited with peanut butter! Place them along walls where mice run. Check daily, I caught 5 in a week.
Do snap traps work if there are babies? I don’t want orphans stuck in the walls. @TrapKing
Sadly, they might. For humane options, try live traps with release 2+ miles away. But act fast, mice breed every 3 weeks!
Soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and toss them into corners. Mice hate the smell! Reapply every 2 weeks.
Will this harm my dog if he sniffs the oil? @PeppermintPro
It’s safe, but keep the cotton balls in mesh bags so pets can’t chew them.
Find entry holes with a flashlight at night. Seal gaps with steel wool and silicone caulk, mice can’t chew through metal!
Try ultrasonic repellents! They emit high-frequency sounds that drive mice away. Pet-safe and no cleanup.
Adopt a cat! Even a lazy one will deter mice with their scent. My tabby cleared my attic in 2 weeks.
Mix baking soda + sugar as bait. It’s lethal to mice but safe for pets. Place it in hidden spots they frequent.
Call a pro if you see chewed wires or nests. They’ll use infrared cameras to find hidden colonies and seal all gaps.
Sanitize Everything! Mice carry hantavirus. Wear gloves, spray droppings with bleach, and vacuum with a HEPA filter.
