Hi everyone!
I just discovered a large wasp nest under my deck, it’s the size of a football! I’m terrified of getting stung, but I also don’t want to harm the ecosystem. What’s the safest way to handle this?
Hi everyone!
I just discovered a large wasp nest under my deck, it’s the size of a football! I’m terrified of getting stung, but I also don’t want to harm the ecosystem. What’s the safest way to handle this?
If the nest is under 6 inches and you’re not allergic, try a wasp spray at NIGHT when they’re dormant. Stand 10+ feet away and spray the entrance. Cover face and neck!
Mix dish soap + water in a spray bottle! Soap clogs their breathing pores. Spray at dusk, then knock down the nest with a pole. Works for small nests!
@BeekeeperPro What if it’s bigger than 6 inches? It’s huge, maybe 12 inches. Still DIY?
Use a fake nest! Wasps are territorial. Hang a decoy nearby. They’ll avoid the area thinking it’s claimed.
Boil cinnamon sticks and spray the liquid around the deck. Wasps hate the smell. Also, keep sweet drinks covered, they’re attracted to sugar!
Do not risk IT if you’re allergic! One sting = ER trip. Seal the area and call pest control asap. Your life isn’t worth $150!
Cover yourself in baggy clothes, duct-tape sleeves/pants, and use a head net. Soapy water spray + RUN. Works but feels like a spy mission!
Hired a pro, nest had 500+ wasps! They vacuumed them alive and relocated. Kids are safe. Thanks for the advice!
If the nest is far from activity, leave it! Wasps pollinate and eat pests. They die in winter, knock it down when empty. Nature’s cleanup crew!
