What’s the Most Reliable Residual Product for General Outdoor Bugs?

Hey folks,
I’m trying to figure out what people consider the most reliable long-lasting option for dealing with general outdoor bugs. I’m talking about the usual backyard guests — ants, spiders, occasional roaches, and those annoying little crawlers that show up around patios and siding.

I’m mainly looking for something that holds up well outdoors and doesn’t disappear the moment it rains or gets hot.

For me, consistency matters more than what you choose. If you treat every few weeks during warm months, most outdoor bugs stay under control.

I always focus on the shaded spots behind the AC unit and under the deck. Those spots stay damp and attract way more activity than the sunny areas.

Rain definitely affects things. Even if something says it’s weather-resistant, a heavy storm will make you reapply sooner than planned.

I’ve had pretty good luck just doing a simple routine: foundation line, windows, door frames, and then a perimeter around the yard. Keeps most crawlers from getting close.

@CrawlSpaceCasey Totally agree, moisture pockets are the worst. Once I dried out the area under my stairs, the bug traffic dropped right away.

If you’ve got mulch beds, check them often. They stay warm and damp and basically act like a little hotel for all kinds of insects.

Treating around the base of fences helps too. I didn’t realize how many spiders were living along mine until I started paying attention.

@NatureBarrierNick Weather is huge. I try to apply right before a stretch of dry days so it has time to settle in and actually work.

Make sure you hit the spots where the house meets the soil. That transition area is where a lot of outdoor bugs wander in from.

I usually reapply every 4–6 weeks. It’s not perfect, but it keeps things manageable without having to constantly chase every little bug.
