Hi everyone,
I’ve been noticing a strange, musty smell in parts of my kitchen and I’m starting to wonder if it could be related to cockroaches. I haven’t seen many, maybe one or two at night, but the smell is what’s making me suspicious.
It’s kind of hard to describe — slightly oily, stale, and just “off.” I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it or if this is actually a common sign of an infestation.
For those who’ve dealt with cockroaches before, is there really a noticeable smell? If so, what does it usually smell like?
Yeah, there’s definitely a smell when the infestation gets bigger.
It’s kind of musty and oily at the same time. Hard to miss once you know it.
The stronger the smell, the more established the infestation usually is.
@HomeShieldMax agree. When I noticed the smell, there were already quite a few hiding.
I’d describe it as stale and slightly sweet but unpleasant.
You usually notice it more in enclosed spaces like cabinets.
@PestTrackOliver Yeah, mild smell might mean early stage, strong smell is worse.
I didn’t realize it was roaches until I connected the smell with sightings.
It tends to linger even after cleaning if the source isn’t gone.
If you’re smelling it regularly, it’s worth checking thoroughly.
