Hey everyone,
Lately I’ve been dealing with some tiny black insects that seem to bite mostly at night. I usually notice them when I’m lying in bed or sitting on the couch late in the evening. They’re really small, hard to see clearly, and I’m not even sure what they are.
I’ve checked for bed bugs but I’m not seeing the typical signs. No obvious stains or clusters on the mattress. Still, something is definitely biting. I’m wondering if these could be gnats, fleas, mites, or something else entirely.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What did they turn out to be, and how did you finally get rid of them?
That sounds a lot like what I dealt with last summer. In my case it turned out to be biting midges getting in through the window screens.
If you have pets I would check for fleas first. They can be really easy to miss in the beginning.
I had something similar and it ended up being bird mites from a nest near the roof vent. Removing the nest fixed it.
Night biting bugs are tricky. Bed bugs, fleas, or mites are usually the top suspects.
You might want to check your mattress seams again just to be safe. They hide really well sometimes.
@UrbanCabinLuke I had the same issue with a nest in my attic. Took me weeks to figure out.
Sticky traps near your bed or couch could help you identify what they actually are.
Vacuuming more frequently helped when I had mystery bites at night. Especially around baseboards.
Also check window gaps. Tiny insects can squeeze through way smaller openings than people expect.
@GarageFixerTom yeah sticky traps are underrated. Helped me identify fungus gnats once.
