Hey everyone,
I’m dealing with what feels like a full-blown invasion in my house. I’m talking roaches, some mystery beetles, maybe even silverfish — it’s gotten to the point where every time I turn on a light, something moves. I’ve tried gels, sprays, cleaning everything twice, and sealing cracks, but it still feels like I’m losing.
I’m honestly at the stage where I’m thinking about just “nuking” the whole place with a whole-house treatment or foggers, but I know those aren’t always as effective as they sound. Before I go that route, I’d love some advice:
-
Has anyone ever done a major whole-house treatment on their own?
-
Did it actually reduce the problem long-term?
-
What should I prep or protect beforehand?
-
Anything you wish you’d known before doing it?
Really hoping for some guidance. This has gone from annoying to overwhelming pretty fast.
I’ve been there. Foggers feel powerful but the results were pretty underwhelming. They don’t get into the cracks where the real action is.
If you’re thinking whole-house, prep is everything. Cover electronics, move furniture off walls, and turn off anything with a flame. The residue can land everywhere.
I tried a “total release” setup once. It made the place smell like chemicals for a day, but the roaches were back within a week. Didn’t hit the nests at all.
Honestly, the biggest thing that helped me was combining deep cleaning with targeted treatments instead of one huge blast. Whole house stuff didn’t reach behind my cabinets.
@DustyCorners Same experience here. The adults died, but the eggs hatched right after. I had new ones running around like nothing happened.
Make sure your ventilation is solid afterward. I opened every window and ran box fans all day just to get that chemical haze out.
The thing most people forget is to pull appliances out. Behind the stove and fridge was where most of my problem was hiding.
If your infestation is “severe severe,” the traps and foggers are just going to show you how many there are, not actually remove them. Think of them as diagnostics.
@KitchenCache Yep! When I finally moved my dishwasher, I understood where they’d been breeding. None of the foggers ever reached that spot.
Whatever route you choose, make sure you follow up after a week or so. A single “big blast” won’t stop new ones from emerging if you don’t hit their hiding areas directly.
