Hey everyone,
I just discovered that my guest room is crawling with carpet beetles — both adults and those little fuzzy larvae. I’m honestly overwhelmed and not even sure where to begin. I’ve already vacuumed once, but they keep showing up around the windowsills, under the bed, and even in the closet.
I had them in my office last year. The most effective first step was a super thorough vacuuming — like, moving every piece of furniture. They hide in corners you’d never expect.
Agree with the deep clean. You’ll want to wash any fabrics in hot water too — curtains, blankets, even clothes in the same room.
Check your windows. Mine were coming in because I had old screens that didn’t seal properly. Once I fixed that, the numbers dropped fast.
If you’ve got wool or natural fiber stuff, inspect it carefully. That’s what the larvae love. I ended up tossing a rug because the damage was way worse than I thought.
@HomeFixHannah A crevice tool on your vacuum will save your life. Carpet beetles love baseboards and the edges of carpeted rooms. That’s where I found most of mine.
Steam cleaning helped me a ton. It kills larvae that vacuuming misses, especially the stubborn ones stuck in carpet fibers.
Don’t forget to empty the vacuum immediately after. I left mine for a day and the nasty little things crawled right out.
I used diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the room after cleaning. Took a couple weeks, but it really cut down the population.
If you have upholstered furniture in that room, flip it over and inspect the underside. I found a whole cluster hiding in the lining under my couch.
@CornerCatcher DE works, but only after you clean thoroughly. Don’t expect miracles if the room is still dusty or cluttered.
