Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with Oriental cockroaches on and off for almost a year now, and honestly, it’s getting frustrating.
Every few weeks I’ll think the problem is finally under control, then suddenly I’ll spot another one in the basement, laundry room, or near a drain. I’ve cleaned regularly, reduced clutter, and even tried a few different treatments, but they always seem to come back.
What makes this even more confusing is that I rarely see large numbers at once. It’s usually one or two at a time, which makes me wonder if I’m missing the actual source.
For anyone who successfully got rid of Oriental roaches long term:
-
What finally worked?
-
Did you find a hidden moisture issue?
-
Were drains, crawl spaces, or outdoor areas the real problem?
-
How long did it take before you felt confident they were actually gone?
I’d love to hear some real-world experiences before I spend even more money trying random solutions.
For me it turned out to be a moisture problem. I fixed a leaking pipe in the basement and the sightings dropped dramatically.
Same experience here. Oriental roaches seem to love damp areas more than anything else.
Have you checked floor drains? That’s where mine were coming from.
@DrainWhisperWally Good point. I kept treating the room itself but completely ignored the utility drain nearby.
Don’t overlook the outside of the house either. Mine were breeding under wet mulch against the foundation.
I sealed several gaps around utility lines and vents. That didn’t solve everything, but it definitely reduced activity.
What finally worked for me was combining sanitation, moisture control, and baiting instead of relying on just one method.
@BugByte23 Do you mostly see them after rain? I noticed a huge increase whenever we had several wet days in a row.
I spent months focusing on sprays when the real issue was standing water near a basement wall.
The biggest lesson I learned is that Oriental roaches are often a symptom of an environmental problem. Once I fixed the moisture sources, the roaches gradually disappeared.
