Hey everyone!
We recently discovered signs of rats in our garage, and now I’m stuck deciding between using traps or poison. My biggest concern is safety since we have kids and a dog at home.
I’ve read that poison can be effective but risky, especially if a rat dies inside a wall or if a pet somehow gets exposed. On the other hand, traps seem safer but maybe less practical if there are multiple rats.
For families who’ve dealt with this, which option felt safer and more manageable in the long run?
As a pet owner, I would never use poison indoors. Secondary poisoning is a real concern.
Traps give you more control. You know when it worked and where the rodent is.
Poison also creates odor problems if they die inside walls. Learned that the hard way.
@PetSafePenny Same here. Even with bait stations, I still worry about accidents.
I think poison works faster in heavy infestations, but it’s not family-friendly in my opinion.
Traps may require more monitoring, but they’re predictable. That matters when kids are around.
Poison might seem easier at first, but the cleanup cost later can be worse.
@SnapTrapSam Totally agree. Control and visibility are huge advantages with traps.
For me, sealing entry points was even more important than choosing traps vs poison.
I prefer enclosed or electronic traps. Less risk, less mess, and no toxins in the house.
