Rat Trap Longevity: How Long Do They Last?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been doing some research on rat traps for my home and I’m curious about their longevity. It seems like some traps last a long time while others need to be replaced frequently.

I’ve seen both snap traps and electronic traps, but I’m unsure how long each type typically lasts.

Hey @ScienceBuffBen! Great topic. From my experience with snap traps, they can last a long time if taken care of properly. I usually clean them after each use to prevent rust and other issues.

Hi all! I’ve only used electronic traps, and I can vouch for their longevity. I’ve had mine for over a year now, and it’s still going strong. I think they might outlast snap traps if you keep them in a dry place.

To answer your question about environmental factors, I’ve noticed that traps in damp basements tend to fail quicker because of corrosion. Anyone else had this experience?

Thanks for the input, @CatCareGuru and @IHeartMice! It’s interesting to hear that maintenance can play such a significant role. I live in a humid area, so I might lean towards electronic traps since they seem more durable.

Hey everyone! Regarding warranties, I had a situation with a snap trap where the spring broke. I contacted the manufacturer, and they replaced it without any hassle.

To add to the conversation, I’ve found that cheaper traps don’t tend to last as long. Investing in quality really pays off in the long run.

Do you think that the initial price is worth it for better durability?

Great point, @DryDogDude! I agree. While it’s tempting to go for the cheaper option, I’ve had less success with them.

Another thing to consider is the bait type used. Sometimes, the right bait can make even a cheaper trap more effective and last longer, depending on how often you catch something. Any thoughts on bait?

Fantastic insights! I totally see the value in investing in a good trap. As for bait, I’ve had success with peanut butter; it lasts longer and attracts them well.

Is there a specific bait that anyone has found particularly effective with electronic traps?

Peanut butter is definitely a classic! For electronic traps, I’ve read that using a small piece of dried fruit can work wonders, too. The smell seems to attract them more than some other options.

Has anyone tried other bait strategies? I’m curious if anyone has had success with different kinds!
