Mouse traps not working at all — what am I doing wrong?

Hi all,
I’m honestly at a loss right now. I’ve set multiple mouse traps over the past week and somehow the mice keep taking the bait without ever getting caught — or just ignoring the traps completely.

I’ve tried different baits, moved the traps around, and even switched trap styles, but nothing seems to work. At this point I’m wondering if I’m missing something obvious.

Are there common mistakes people make with mouse traps? Placement, bait choice, timing? I’d really appreciate any advice before I lose my mind.

Trap placement is everything. If it’s not along a wall or in their usual path, they’ll avoid it.

I had the same issue until I stopped using too much bait. They’d just lick it off.

Also worth checking if there’s other food around. Traps won’t win if there’s easier snacks nearby.

@UrbanRodent That might be my problem, I’ve been loading them up thinking more bait was better.

Some mice are just trap-shy, especially if they’ve been caught before. Switching trap types can help.

Snap traps worked better for me than glue boards. Faster and honestly more humane.

@ToolShedTom Totally agree. I see people put traps in the middle of rooms and wonder why nothing happens.

Wear gloves when setting them. Human scent can make a difference, surprisingly.

Give it time. Sometimes it takes a few nights before they get comfortable enough.

If none of that works, you might be dealing with more mice than you think. Sealing entry points helped me more than traps alone.
