Mothballs: What Animals Do They Keep Away?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been doing some research on mothballs and I’m curious about their effectiveness in repelling various animals. Traditionally, mothballs are used to protect clothing and fabrics from moth damage, but I’ve heard that they might also deter other pests.

I’ve heard that mothballs can repel rodents like mice and rats. They really hate the smell! But I wonder if that’s actually safe for other nearby wildlife?

That’s interesting, IHeartMice! I’ve read they may also deter raccoons and squirrels. However, I’ve also seen claims that they don’t work for all animals. Some might just get used to the smell.

I’d be cautious about using mothballs, though. They’re toxic to pets, especially cats and dogs. If they get into them, it could be really dangerous!

Absolutely, DryDogDude. I think that’s one of the biggest concerns. Besides rodents, I’ve heard they might also help keep away some insects like cockroaches. Has anyone tried that?

Yes, they’re effective against cockroaches, but I would also recommend using them in well-ventilated areas. The chemicals can be harmful if inhaled too much.
