Hey everyone!
I’ve got a woodlice invasion in my basement and greenhouse, and I’m losing my mind!
These little crustaceans are everywhere, munching on seedlings, hiding under flowerpots, and even crawling into stored boxes. I live in a humid coastal area, so damp spots are unavoidable. I’ve tried diatomaceous earth and reducing watering, but they just migrate to wetter zones.
Potato trap trick: Halve potatoes (flesh-side down) overnight! Woodlice swarm inside them. Toss ’em in sealed bags each morning. Caught 50+ in my greenhouse!
@NightFlyer3 Genius! How often do you replace the potatoes?
Every 2 days, they rot fast! Add a spoonful of oatmeal to boost attraction.
Sprinkle silica gel packets in storage boxes! Reuse ones from shoe boxes. For basements, run a dehumidifier at 50% + point fans at damp corners.
Natural spray: 1 cup water + 1 tsp neem oil + 1 tsp castile soap! Spray on soil/entry points. Kills on contact but safe for pets when dry.
Surround beds with crumbled eggshells + coffee grounds. Sharp edges pierce their shells! Reapply after rain.
@MightyMouser Does this work on concrete floors too?
Seal cracks with boric acid paste (1:1 with flour + water). Safe for pets once dry, but lethal for woodlice. Wear gloves when applying!
Elevate your plants! Use wire racks instead of pots on soil. Woodlice can’t climb smooth metal/plastic.
Remove decaying leaves/wood near foundations! They attract woodlice seeking cellulose.
Shallow dish with cheap beer by walls. Drowns them within hours! Pet-safe alternative to chemicals.
Cedar magic! Place cedar chips in storage bins/garden edges. Terpenes repel them naturally. Lasts 3 months!
