Hey all, I’ve recently discovered a bunch of bullfrogs in my backyard pond. They’re super loud and seem to be multiplying. Any tips on how to get rid of them?
I’ve had a similar issue before. You might want to try putting up a physical barrier around the pond. It can help prevent them from getting in or out.
@ktJudyCooke chemical treatments can work too, but you need to be very cautious. They can harm other wildlife and plants in your pond.
I agree. Building a small fence worked wonders for me. Make sure it’s high enough and dug a bit into the soil so they can’t just jump over or burrow under.
Thank you so much for your advice! I’ll try
I’ll look into barriers first, but if it doesn’t work, what kind of chemicals would you recommend?
Something like copper sulfate works, but be careful to use it in small, controlled amounts.
Has anyone tried using traps? I’ve read that they can be effective but don’t want to harm other animals.
I’ve personally used minnow traps baited with meat. They attract bullfrogs but can sometimes catch other critters too, so you’ll need to free them carefully.
Anyone tried noise deterrents? Thinking about using ultrasonic devices to keep bullfrogs away.
@Grace those traps work, but be aware they require regular monitoring so you don’t accidentally hurt other animals. It’s a big
I’ve experimented with those. They might work temporarily, but bullfrogs seem to get used to the noise over time.
What frequency and duration were you using? Different settings can produce different results.
@CharlotteHarris I was using around 20 kHz, which was supposed to be effective. Maybe I need to alternate frequencies more frequently?
Alternating might be worth a try. I’ve read about using a pattern of varying frequencies and times to keep pests guessing.
