Hi everyone!
I live in a dense downtown neighborhood, and rats are taking over our alleyways and trash areas! Despite using traps and sealing gaps, they keep coming back. My landlord won’t hire exterminators, and neighbors aren’t cooperating. Need urgent, practical advice!
Seal EVERY gap with steel wool + hydraulic cement, rats can’t chew through it. For trash, use metal bins with locking lids. @CityDweller2024, organize a ‘rat-resistant’ trash day with neighbors!
Electronic traps zapped 5 rats in my building’s basement! Battery-powered and reusable. Avoid glue traps—they’re cruel and messy in shared spaces.
Soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and stuff them into rat runs. Refresh weekly. Safe for dogs but rats HATE the smell. Works better in small spaces!
@UrbanPestPro Will cement hold in old brick buildings? Our walls have crumbling mortar…
Host a community cleanup! Rats thrive in clutter. Offer free pizza to get neighbors involved. My block reduced rats by 70% after monthly cleanups!
Adopt a feral cat colony! They’re low-maintenance and scare rats away. My alley hasn’t seen a rat since I started feeding 3 strays. Check local TNR programs!
Yes! Use epoxy filler for bricks. Also, line ground-level gaps with galvanized steel mesh. Rats hate climbing metal!
Dry ice in burrows! As it melts, CO2 suffocates rats underground. Only use in isolated areas, wear gloves and don’t let pets near. Works in parks too!
Ultrasonic devices fail in cities, background noise drowns them out. Use motion-activated sprinklers instead! Rats hate water and flee.
Sealed gaps with steel wool + peppermint oil. Landlord finally caved and bought metal bins! Planning a cleanup this weekend. Thanks, all!
