How to Control Rats in Hot Areas?

Hi everyone!

I live in Phoenix, Arizona, where temps hit 115°F, and rats are invading my garage and AC ducts! They’re chewing through wires and nesting in insulation. I’ve tried traps, but they keep coming back. Need heat-friendly solutions!

Use stainless steel wool + fire-resistant silicone caulk for gaps. Rats can’t chew through metal, and silicone won’t melt in heat. Focus on AC ducts and roof vents!

Soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and stuff them into rat pathways. The smell repels them, and it’s safe for pets. Refresh weekly, heat evaporates the oil faster!

Where do I find heat-resistant silicone? Regular caulk cracked last summer!

@DesertDweller22 Hardware stores sell high-temp silicone (500°F+ rating). Look for automotive or HVAC-grade. Seal gaps at dawn when temps are cooler for better adhesion.

Rats here LOVE drip irrigation lines. Switch to soaker hoses and fix leaks! Also, store pet food in metal bins, they can’t gnaw through!

Bucket traps with water + sunflower seeds! Rats jump in for water and drown. Cruel but effective in droughts. Check daily and wear gloves!

Ultrasonic repellents work better in small spaces like garages. Pair with motion lights, rats bolt when lights flash. No chemicals needed!

Sprinkle cayenne + crushed garlic near nests! Rats hate spicy smells.

In deserts, rats rely on human water sources. Fix leaky AC units and remove standing water. Dry environments force them to move elsewhere!

Sealed ducts with steel wool + HVAC silicone. No new droppings! Using peppermint oil as backup. Thanks, y’all!
