How Long to Wait After a Whole-Home Fogging Before Re-entering?

Hi everyone!

I recently had my home treated with a whole-home fogging system to eliminate pests, and I’m wondering how long I should wait before re-entering my house. I understand that the chemicals can be harmful if inhaled or touched right after treatment.

From what I’ve read, it seems like different companies recommend different waiting times. Some say a couple of hours, while others suggest waiting a full day or more. This got me thinking:

  1. What are the factors that influence the wait time?
  2. Have any of you had experiences with different pest control companies?
  3. What safety precautions do you take if you have pets or young children?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Hey @HomeGardener123! Great question. Typically, companies advise waiting at least 2-4 hours before re-entering. However, I always err on the side of caution and recommend waiting a full 24 hours if possible, especially if the fogging was intense.

I’ve had my house fogged a few times, and each time the company said different things. One said 6 hours, and another said 24 hours. I think it really does depend on the chemicals used. What I do is ventilate the house by opening windows for a while before coming back in.

To add to that, I’ve read that humidity and temperature can also play a role. The chemicals might dissipate faster in dry, warm weather, so it’s worth checking the conditions before timing your return.

Hey all! Great points. When I had my home fogged, I made sure to take my dog to a friend’s house for the day. I also covered his food and water bowls and kept his toys outside.

I totally agree with @PetLover92! We have two kids, and I usually just err on the side of caution. I keep them out of the house for a full day after fogging, just to make sure any harmful chemicals have settled. I also check if the pest control company has specific instructions regarding kids and pets.

Has anyone had a particularly good or bad experience with a pest control company regarding fogging? I’m thinking of hiring one soon and would love to hear your recommendations!

I had a great experience with Pest Control. They gave clear instructions on waiting times and were very thorough with their fogging. I waited 24 hours, as they suggested, and had no issues afterward!

Just a thought – I’ve been looking into eco-friendly pest control options. Have any of you tried non-toxic alternatives? I’m curious if they require different wait times or precautions.

Yes! I switched to a natural pest control service last year, and they recommended a wait time of only a few hours. The peace of mind knowing my kids and pets are safe is worth it!
