How do you destroy a cockroach egg case for good?

Hi everyone,

I recently found what looks like a cockroach egg case (ootheca) behind a cabinet while cleaning, and now I’m wondering what the best way is to make sure it doesn’t hatch. I removed it right away, but I’m not completely sure if that’s enough or if there’s something else I should be doing to prevent more from appearing.

From what I’ve read, each egg case can contain quite a few roaches, which makes me a bit concerned that I might find more hiding around the same area. I’ve started checking behind appliances, along baseboards, and inside cabinets just in case.

For anyone who has dealt with this before, what did you do to make sure the egg cases were completely taken care of?

If you find one, the safest thing is to remove it and seal it in a bag before throwing it away.

I crushed one once and then cleaned the area right after.

@EmmaClarke Same here, but I also vacuumed around that spot just in case.

They often hide them in warm, dark areas like behind appliances.

I found a couple behind my fridge last year.

Freezing or sealing them before disposal can help make sure they don’t hatch later.

@NoraLane That’s actually a good idea if you’re unsure.

After I found one, I started checking nearby cracks and gaps.

Cleaning and removing food sources helps prevent more from showing up.

Usually if you find one, it’s worth doing a deeper inspection of the surrounding area.
