How Do I Get Rid of Spider Mites?

Hi everyone!

My beloved indoor plants are under attack by spider mites. I noticed tiny webs on my fiddle leaf fig and yellow speckling on the leaves. I’ve tried spraying them with water, but the infestation keeps coming back! I need help!

What’s the most effective way to eradicate these pests without harming my plants?

Neem oil is my go-to! Mix 2 tsp neem oil + 1 tsp dish soap in a quart of water. Spray every 3 days for 2 weeks. Wipe leaves with a microfiber cloth to remove mites and eggs.

@JungleJane Yes! And add a few drops of peppermint oil to the mix, spider mites hate the smell. Works like magic on my succulents!

Diatomaceous earth sprinkled on the soil and leaves dehydrates them. Just reapply after watering. Non-toxic and pet-safe!

Blast them off with a strong hose spray! For delicate plants, use a handheld showerhead. Follow up with insecticidal soap. Repeat 3x a week, persistence is key!

Quarantine ASAP! Spider mites spread like wildfire. I lost 5 roses before learning this. Cover infected plants with a plastic bag while treating to contain them.

Ladybugs!! Release them at night near your plants. They devour spider mites and eggs. Just make sure to turn off lights so the ladybugs stick around.

For severe cases, use a miticide like Avid or Floramite. BUT rotate products to prevent resistance. Always wear gloves and mask!

Boost humidity! Spider mites thrive in dry air. Run a humidifier or place plants on a pebble tray with water. My monstera recovered in 2 weeks!

Garlic spray: Blend 10 garlic cloves + 1L water. Strain and spray. Stinky but effective! Reapply after rain or watering.

Prevention tip: Routine checks! Inspect undersides of leaves weekly. Early detection = easier control. I use a magnifying glass for tiny mites.

Alcohol swabs! Dip a cotton ball in 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe leaves. Kills mites on contact. Test a small area first to avoid leaf burn.
