House is severely infested… considering “nuking” it. What are my real options?

Hi all,

I’m honestly at my breaking point. We’ve been dealing with a heavy infestation for months now, and nothing seems to stick. Traps help a little, sprays feel temporary, and every time we think it’s under control, it comes right back.

When people say “nuke the house,” what does that actually mean in real life? I’m trying to understand:

  • What extreme options really exist

  • Which ones are effective vs. just dramatic

  • And when it’s time to stop DIY and call in professionals

Looking for realistic advice, not miracle cures.

“Nuking” usually just means coordinated treatment, not one big blast. Multiple methods, timed correctly.

We thought foggers would solve everything. They didn’t. They knocked things back but never hit the root cause.

Before anything extreme, sealing entry points made a bigger difference than any chemical we used.

@BeenThereDoneThat That’s exactly what I’m worried about, wasting money on short-term fixes.

From a pro standpoint, “nuking” usually means a full-home treatment plan over weeks, not days.

If someone promises a one-visit total wipeout, that’s a red flag in my experience.

@LicensedTechTom appreciate hearing that. Most ads make it sound instant.

Extreme infestations usually need monitoring, follow-ups, and lifestyle changes, not just stronger chemicals.

We had to combine professional treatment and deep cleaning to finally get ahead of it.

@ExclusionFirst Sealing and sanitation felt boring, but it’s what finally made treatments stick for us.
