Hey everyone!
I’ve been dealing with a bit of a rodent problem in my home lately. I really want to avoid using poison or traps, especially since I have pets around. I’ve been looking into some natural remedies to deter rats and mice.
I’ve read about a few options like using peppermint oil, ammonia, and even ultrasonic pest repellents. But I’m curious if anyone here has tried any specific remedies that actually worked for them?
Great topic, @ScienceBuffBen! I also prefer natural methods. I’ve had success with peppermint oil. I soaked some cotton balls in it and placed them in areas where I suspected rodent activity. It really seemed to help!
I’ve read that peppermint oil is effective, too! But, I think it’s more about consistent application. Have you guys found you need to refresh the scent often?
I used peppermint oil for a while, but I couldn’t keep up with the refreshing. I switched to using a mix of vinegar and water for cleaning surfaces. The strong smell seems to deter them. Anyone else tried this?
Oh, I swear by using ammonia! I just soak some rags in it and place them around entry points. Just be careful with pets around; the smell is strong!
That’s interesting, @SkepticalSue! Did you notice any immediate changes, or was it more gradual?
It was pretty quick, actually! I noticed fewer droppings within a few days. I think the key is to be persistent about it.
I’ve read that it’s important to combine methods. Like using essential oils with some cleaning habits. What do you think?
Definitely! Prevention is key. I also make sure to seal any cracks and keep food stored properly. That has helped a lot.
I also put out some cat litter near their suspected pathways. The scent seems to make them think there’s a predator around. Anyone tried that?
That’s a clever idea, @CaveDweller666! I hadn’t thought of that. I might try it out!
That’s a good point about cleaning, @HomeHelper. I bet keeping things tidy really helps.
Thanks for the tips, everyone! I’m definitely going to try combining these methods. I’ll keep you all updated on what works!
