Getting Rid of Mud Daubers in the Garage

Hey everyone!
I’m hoping someone here has dealt with mud daubers before. Over the past few weeks, they’ve started building those hard mud nests all over my garage—on the walls, near the ceiling, and even above the garage door.

I’m not super afraid of them, but I really don’t want them nesting inside the garage, especially since I go in and out daily. I’ve knocked a few nests down, but they keep rebuilding in the same spots.

What’s the best way to get rid of mud daubers and keep them from coming back? I’d prefer something practical and long-term if possible.

Mud daubers are pretty persistent once they pick a spot. Knocking down the nests helps, but timing matters—you want to remove them when the nest is inactive.

Be careful removing nests if you’re not sure whether they’re active. Protective gloves go a long way.

I had success scraping the nests off and then sealing the surface. They kept coming back until I closed up small cracks.

@DIYDude56 That makes sense. I didn’t think about sealing the spots after removing the nests.

If you want a non-chemical approach, keeping the garage doors closed and reducing spider activity can help. Mud daubers hunt spiders.

They’re less aggressive than other wasps, but prevention is key. Once the garage feels “unfriendly,” they usually move on.

I used a pressure washer to remove old nests and then repainted the area. Haven’t seen them come back since.

@NatureLover99 Do you usually remove nests at night, or does time of day not matter much?

@UrbanGardener77 Early morning or evening works best. They’re usually less active then.

Long-term solution is nest removal plus deterrence—seal gaps, reduce insects, and keep the garage less appealing overall.
