Getting Flea Bites but Can't Find Any Fleas – What Could It Be?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been getting what look like flea bites — small, itchy, usually around my ankles — but I haven’t actually seen a single flea anywhere.

I’ve checked:

  • Carpets

  • Bedding

  • Furniture

  • Even my pet

Nothing obvious shows up, which is making this really confusing.

So now I’m wondering:

  • Is it possible to have fleas without seeing them?

  • Or could this be something else entirely?

  • Has anyone dealt with “invisible” flea problems before?

Trying to figure out if I’m missing something or barking up the wrong tree.

Fleas can definitely be there without you seeing them, especially early on.

Check your pet closely, sometimes they hide really well in fur.

@PetWatchOwen yeah, and they tend to stay low near carpets and floors.

Could also be something else like mites or even bed bugs.

The pattern of bites matters. Flea bites are usually around ankles.

Try the white sock test — walk around and see if anything jumps on.

@BiteCheckArlo I had the same issue and didn’t see anything for days, then finally spotted one.

Check seams of furniture and bedding too, not just surfaces.

Sometimes it’s not fleas at all, just skin reactions or other insects.

It took me a while to confirm fleas, so it’s definitely possible they’re there but hard to spot at first.
