Hey everyone!
I recently discovered some rat holes in my garden, and I’m honestly pretty freaked out. I love my plants and have worked hard to make my garden a beautiful space. I’ve read that rats can cause a lot of damage, and I want to take action before it gets worse.
Hey @MousePatrol! Sorry to hear about the rats. I had a similar issue last year. I found that using peppermint oil around the areas where I saw the holes really helped deter them. They dislike the smell!
That’s a great suggestion, SkepticalSue! I’d add that keeping the garden clean and reducing debris can also help. Rats love to hide in clutter. Have you tried any other methods?
I would be cautious with poisons, though! They can harm other animals too. I used snap traps with peanut butter bait; they were effective without risking other wildlife.
Hi there! Just jumping in here. If you want a long-term solution, I’d recommend fencing your garden. A good wire mesh barrier can prevent rats from digging in.
Absolutely! I also had issues with rodents, and after I installed a fence, I haven’t had a problem since. Just make sure it’s buried a little underground to stop them from burrowing underneath!
Hey all, I just wanted to throw in that having a cat can also deter rats! Mine patrols the garden, and I haven’t seen a rat since she started her shifts.
I love that idea! Cats are natural hunters. Just make sure they don’t go after the birds! Also, certain plants like lavender and marigold are said to repel them.
Hey everyone, I had a major rat issue a while back, and I found that a combination of methods worked best. I used traps, removed food sources, and planted supposed repellents.
Sounds like a solid plan, @EarthFriendlyTom! Just be careful with traps, especially if you have pets. Always check them regularly to avoid any issues.
Hi @MousePatrol, don’t despair! It sounds like you have a lot of options. I found that keeping compost bins secured and making sure no food scraps are left out can be key in keeping rats away.
Definitely! And a little cleanup can go a long way. Regularly check for any potential nesting areas and remove them.
