Hey everyone!
I’m really confused and honestly a bit stressed. I’ve been waking up with itchy bites on my ankles and lower legs that look exactly like flea bites—but I can’t find a single flea anywhere.
I’ve checked the bed, couch, carpets, and even my pets, but I haven’t seen anything jumping or crawling. No pets are scratching excessively either, which makes this even more confusing. Still, the bites keep appearing every few days.
Has anyone dealt with flea bites without actually seeing fleas? Could this be something else entirely, or are fleas just really good at hiding?
Fleas can be incredibly hard to spot, especially early on. Bites on ankles and legs do line up with flea activity, though.
Before assuming fleas, also consider mites or even bed bugs. Bite patterns can overlap more than people think.
I went through this last year. Turned out the fleas were mostly in the carpet and only came out at night.
@PetOwnerProblems Are your pets on flea prevention? Even indoor pets can bring fleas in sometimes.
@PetSafeMom Yes, they’re on prevention, which is why this is so confusing. No scratching at all.
You can try wearing white socks and standing on carpet for a minute—fleas sometimes jump and are easier to spot that way.
Just throwing this out there: I thought I had flea bites, but it ended up being an allergic reaction to laundry detergent.
@BugExpert99 Is right, don’t rule out other pests yet. Fleas usually leave signs like dirt (black specks) where pets sleep.
If bites keep appearing but you never see insects, it might be worth getting a professional inspection just to narrow it down.
I didn’t actually see a flea until weeks later. Treating early saved me from a full-blown infestation.
