Hey everyone!
I’m looking to get some insights on pest control products. With summer winding down, I’m finding that I need to tackle some pest issues both inside and outside my home. I’ve seen a ton of options out there, but it’s hard to tell which ones actually work.
To make it easier to discuss, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the following:
- What indoor pest control products have you found to be effective (e.g., sprays, traps)?
- Are there specific outdoor products you swear by for pests like mosquitoes, ants, or rodents?
- Any recommendations or brands that you’d steer clear of?
Let’s share our experiences and help each other out!
Hey @PestControlGuru91! Great topic! For indoor use, I’ve had good luck with Ortho Home Defense for roaches and ants. It’s easy to use and works well. Also, I really like Sticky Traps for flying insects — they’re non-toxic and you just peel and stick.
As for outdoor, I swear by Spectracide Triazicide for ants and ticks. It’s super effective and lasts a long time. What kind of pests are you dealing with specifically?
@GreenThumbSarah, I agree with you on the Ortho product! I’ve also used Raid Ant and Roach Killer indoors, and it does the trick quickly. Just make sure to ventilate the area afterward.
For outdoor, you can’t go wrong with Cutter Backyard Bug Control. It kept my yard mosquito-free all summer!
Just a heads-up though, I’ve heard mixed reviews about Hot Shot Bed Bug Killer. Some people say it works great, while others had bad luck with it.
@BugBusterJake, I’ve used Hot Shot Bed Bug Killer and it was okay for me, but I think it depends on how severe the infestation is. For serious problems, I’d recommend calling in a pro.
I’d also like to throw out there that Diatomaceous Earth works wonders for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s a natural product and effective against many pests. Just be sure to apply it where pets can’t reach!
Thanks for starting this thread, @PestControlGuru91! One go-to indoors is diatomaceous earth, sprinkled along baseboards and behind appliances, it’s an all-natural barrier against ants and roaches.
Totally agree with @GreenThumbSarah Sticky Traps for flies and moths are super convenient and pet-safe. Set ’em up by screens or lamps; works like a charm.
Outdoors, I’ve had great success with the Mosquito Trap, electric, silent fan, and UVA light combo draws them in then kills them quickly. Love the EPA-approved bait system.
For plant pests, I prefer insecticidal soap, effective on aphids and mites, low toxicity, and simple to mix. Just be sure to test on a leaf first to avoid burns.
@BugBusterJake I tried Cutter Backyard Bug Control last summer, zero ticks in my yard. No midday bites and no annoying cloud of insecticide, so it’s a keeper.
High-power ultrasonic rodent repellers are cool, they seem to help with casual intrusion, but I still seal up holes first. It’s about layers, not single solutions.
Mosquito Dunks with Bti are amazing for the water features in my garden, totally kid- and pet-safe, and you don’t even notice them working. Broad use for fungi gnats too.
If flies are your issue, a mix of Pine-Sol spray and quick-vinegar cleanup cuts down the swarm fast. It’s not a permanent fix, but it buys me time until I toss sticky pads.
Still use Ortho Home Defense indoors, it’s reliable for gaps and exterior wall bases. Couple that with sticky traps, and I rarely see ants anymore.
Rotate a few methods, sticky traps, DE indoors, Mosquito Trap outside, ultrasonic rodent repeller, and always patch entry points. Keeps pests guessing and you worry-free.
