Hi everyone, I’ve been seeing ads for ultrasonic pest repellers and I’m tempted to try them out. Does anyone have experience with these devices? Do they really work?
Hey techgeekTom! From what I’ve read, there’s mixed evidence about their effectiveness. Some people swear by them, while others haven’t seen any results. It might also depend on the type of pests you’re dealing with.
I’m with you, nature_nancy. I think most of these gadgets are just gimmicks. There’s no replacement for proper pest control and keeping your house clean.
Actually skepticSam, some ultrasonic devices have been scientifically proven to repel certain pests. It’s all about the frequency. If you get the right device for the particular pest, it can work wonders.
I tried one, and I haven’t seen any mice since then. Not sure if it’s related, but it’s been peaceful.
They might work for some, but pests can get used to the noise over time. It’s not a permanent fix.
I agree with you. The effectiveness may diminish with time. Also, different pests react differently to ultrasonic waves.
I live in a tropical area, and it seems like ultrasonic repellents don’t do a thing against mosquitoes. Has anyone else had this issue?
Well, there’s no solid scientific evidence that proves ultrasonic repellents are consistently effective. It seems to be a hit or miss.
Agreed. It’s about finding what works best for your situation. I think combining methods is the best approach.
@techgeekTom I tested 3 different brands last summer. The solar-powered one worked best for mice but did nothing for spiders. Maybe pests have frequency preferences?
these devices can distress pets too! My neighbor’s dog started avoiding their patio after they installed ultrasonic repellers.
As someone in an apartment, these were my only option (no traps/poison allowed). Surprisingly kept roaches away for 6 months before I had to switch units.
@proPestPatrol is right about frequencies. The industrial-grade ones we use at work actually work, but most consumer models are underpowered.
Combined mine with peppermint oil cotton balls - the double approach finally stopped my rat problem! @EthanJohnson maybe your success was similar?
University study showed rodents initially avoid ultrasonic zones… then return within 2 weeks when hungry enough. Temporary solution at best.
@LucasEvans Same here in Hawaii! Mosquitoes laugh at these devices. Ended up installing fine mesh screens instead - only thing that worked.
Bought a $15 unit from Amazon. Either it worked or my spider problem coincidentally disappeared during winter. Hard to tell!
Barn cats 1, Ultrasonic repellers 0. After wasting $200 on various models, I adopted two mousers. Problem solved permanently.
Look for models with variable frequencies. My smart repeller cycles through 12 different patterns and seems more effective than static ones.
