Do used coffee grounds really dissuade moles from hanging around the garden? Heard this from a friend but can’t find much scientific evidence.
I’ve tried coffee grounds before. Anecdotally, I think it had some effect, but it’s hard to tell if it was the coffee grounds or just a change in the moles’ patterns.
I’m skeptical. Wouldn’t the coffee grounds just decompose and add to the soil quality, thus attracting more worms and ultimately more moles?
That’s a valid point. Improved soil could lead to a food fest for the moles. Maybe it’s not about repelling but more just altering their digging locations?
Coffee grounds may temporarily change smell in a small area, but they are not a reliable mole-control method by themselves. For moles, focus on active tunnel areas, repeated soil movement, and whether the deterrent covers the actual travel zone.
