Has anyone actually seen a bug zapper kill a mosquito? I’ve been thinking about getting one for the patio.
Absolutely, I’ve seen it with my own eyes! The light attracts the mosquitoes and then ZAP, no more mosquito.
I have to disagree. Most of the bugs you find in a zapper’s tray aren’t even the biting type. Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2, not UV light.
That’s partially true, but there are zappers designed with octenol lures to attract mosquitoes specifically. They do work!
I’ve read somewhere that they don’t really do much for mosquito control. Isn’t it better to use repellent?
It might be better for personal protection, but if you want to enjoy an evening without dousing yourself in chemicals, zappers can reduce the number of mosquitoes.
That’s true, but I find it still reduces the number of mosquitoes. Just don’t expect 100% mosquito-free evenings.
I read somewhere that they kill more benign insects than mosquitoes, potentially disrupting the local ecosystem.
Look for zappers that emit different types of attractants, like octenol, to increase their effectiveness against mosquitoes.
Bug zappers can indiscriminately kill insects. Could this be harmful to our backyard ecosystems?
While it’s possible, there’s no concrete evidence to support that bug zappers have a significant impact on ecosystems.
I’ve noticed a decrease in moths around my patio since I installed my zapper, not sure if it’s related though.
