Do I have a wasp nest? Can I DIY this or should I call a pro?

Hi everyone,

Over the last week I’ve noticed a lot more wasps flying around the corner of my roof and sometimes near the garage door. At first I thought it was random, but now it seems like they keep returning to the same area.

I haven’t actually seen a nest yet, but I’m starting to suspect there might be one forming under the eaves or somewhere nearby. I’m trying to decide if this is something I can safely handle myself or if it’s better to call a professional before it gets worse.

Has anyone here dealt with a situation like this? How did you confirm there was a nest, and did you remove it yourself or bring in pest control?

If they’re flying in and out of the same exact spot repeatedly, there’s a good chance a nest is starting there.

I had one under my roof last summer. Early stage nests are much easier to deal with than later ones.

Check during the day from a distance and watch their flight pattern. That’s usually how you confirm it.

If it’s small and easy to reach, some people DIY it, but once the nest gets bigger I’d call a pro.

@RoofingRick Yep that’s exactly what I did. I watched for about 10 minutes and saw where they were entering.

Another sign is increased activity during warmer hours of the day near that same area.

Sometimes nests start inside small gaps near the roofline or siding too.

@BugBusterBrian I agree. I tried DIY once when the nest was already big and it was a mistake.

If you’re unsure where the nest is, that’s usually when professionals can help the most.

Catching it early makes a huge difference. Once a colony grows, removal gets more complicated.
