I’ve been trying to create a herb garden, and recently I’ve noticed an increase in both frogs and snakes. Could it be that the frogs are attracting the snakes?
Actually, Janet, that’s a possibility. Frogs are a food source for many snake species. If you’ve recently noticed more frogs, it’s likely that the snakes have followed as predators.
It’s definitely a food chain thing. Snakes use vibration and scent to hunt, and a garden full of frogs is like a dinner bell!
Snakes also like habitats that provide ample hiding spots. Your herb garden may not only feed them but also give them shelter.
I’ve noticed more snakes around my backyard since I got a small frog pond. Could be a coincidence, but I think frogs might attract them since snakes love an easy meal.
@PondLover23 That makes sense! Snakes are predators, and frogs are like a buffet for them. I read somewhere that garter snakes especially go after frogs. Anyone else seen this?
Yeah, snakes are definitely drawn to areas with lots of frogs. It’s basic food chain stuff. If you’ve got a pond, you’re basically rolling out the red carpet for snakes.
I don’t mind snakes, but I’m worried about my pet frogs now! Should I be setting up some kind of barrier around their tank to keep snakes out?
@FroggyFan If you’re keeping frogs indoors, you’re probably fine. Wild snakes won’t get into a secure tank. But if it’s an outdoor setup, maybe a fine mesh cover could help. Anyone tried this?
Snakes will go where the food is, so frogs are a big draw. I’ve seen this in my local park, tons of frogs near the creek, and snakes are never far behind.
This is why I stopped encouraging frogs in my garden. Too many snakes started showing up, and I’m not a fan! Anyone know how to keep frogs away without harming them?
@GardenGuru You could try reducing standing water or dense vegetation around your garden. Frogs love those spots, so fewer frogs might mean fewer snakes.
I think it depends on the snake species. Not all snakes eat frogs, right? Like, I’ve got corn snakes nearby, and they seem more into mice than amphibians.
Frogs are like snake magnets in my experience. If you’re trying to avoid snakes, you might want to rethink having a frog-friendly yard. But honestly, both are cool creatures!
