Different Termite Treatment Opinions – Liquid, Bait, or Barrier System?

Hey folks,

I’ve been doing some research on termite treatments and keep coming across three main options — liquid treatments, bait systems, and barrier setups. They all sound effective in their own way, but it’s hard to tell which one actually works best long-term.

If you’ve had termite problems before, which method did you go with and why? Was it worth the cost, and did it really stop the infestation?

Curious to hear real experiences, not just what the pest control companies say!

I went with a liquid treatment around the foundation. It worked well for about five years before I needed a reapplication. Definitely effective, but it’s not permanent.

I’m team bait system. It takes longer to work, but it kills the colony instead of just blocking them. You just have to be patient, no overnight results.

@DIYRemedyGuy Makes a great point. Baits are slower but more targeted. Liquids are better if you want fast protection, especially if the termites are already active near your home.

Barrier systems are underrated, honestly. I installed one during construction, no termites so far, and it doesn’t rely on chemicals. It’s a solid choice if you’re building new.

We used a bait system last year after spotting mud tubes. Took a couple of months, but the activity dropped to zero. I like that it’s low-tox and safe with pets around.

I had liquid treatment done ten years ago, and it’s still holding up. But the key was sealing all entry points too. Just doing one thing isn’t enough.

@OldHouseObsessed totally agree, prevention is half the battle. I combined a barrier system with some liquid spot treatments, and haven’t seen a single termite since.

I’ve noticed a lot of pros now recommending hybrid systems — bait + liquid. Costlier, but it gives both short-term kill and long-term protection.

I’m leaning toward bait systems after reading this thread. Seems like less hassle than drilling around the foundation. Anyone tried DIY bait placement or is that best left to pros?

If you’re doing DIY, be careful with spacing and soil type. Misplacing bait stations makes them useless. Sometimes calling a pro just for setup is worth it.
