Can Essential Oils Actually Deter Spiders from a Basement?

Basement warriors, I need your wisdom! Last fall, I drenched my basement corners in peppermint oil to evict spiders—only to find a daddy longlegs chilling on the diffuser. Some say oils work; others call them “glorified air fresheners.” My DIY mix (15 drops peppermint + 10 drops tea tree oil in water) kept them away for a week… until the smell faded.

What’s your verdict? Do essential oils really repel spiders, or are we just aromatherapizing our denial?

Tried lavender oil, aspiders built webs AROUND the drops. Switched to vinegar spray. Kills them on contact but smells like a pickle jar.

Oils only work if you eliminate clutter first! Spiders stick around for bugs. Fix leaks, add dehumidifier, Then use cedar oil.

My “cinnamon-clove” oil mix attracted ants. Now I’m battling two pests. Stick to peppermint and seal cracks with caulk!

Essential oils + ultrasonic repellent = spider-free zone! But fair warning: The combo made my basement sound like a sci-fi movie.

Used tea tree oil, spiders left, but my toddler licked the spray bottle. Stick to high shelves and childproof blends!

Add a few drops of dish soap to your oil mix. It breaks down spider silk and makes ’em scram!

@CaveDweller666 Try using oil-soaked cotton balls in mesh bags! Keeps kids/pets away and lasts longer.

Found a wolf spider guarding my oil diffuser. Maybe they’re evolving? Time to call in the cedarwood cavalry…
