Hey everyone,
I’ve been seeing way more spiders hanging around the outside of my house lately—mostly around the porch, siding, and corners of the windows. I don’t mind spiders in general, but when they start building webs all over the place, it gets out of hand fast.
I’m trying to figure out what kind of outdoor residual spray people use to keep them from coming back. I don’t need anything extreme—just something that works for a few weeks and helps reduce the number of webs popping up everywhere.
I’ve tried a few different approaches, and honestly, consistency is the biggest thing. Spiders rebuild fast, so keeping the area clean between sprays helps a ton.
Hey @PorchWatcher79, totally agree. I noticed that knocking down the webs before spraying makes a huge difference. If you spray over an active web, they just rebuild nearby.
I usually treat once every couple of weeks during summer. Rain can reduce how long it lasts, so timing it after a dry spell seems to improve results.
They love corners and shady spots. I always make sure to hit the underside of railings and the trim along the porch ceiling.
If you have outdoor lights that stay on at night, consider adjusting them. Spiders chase insects, and insects chase light. Reducing that attraction helps quite a bit.
@BackyardBattler one thing I learned: spraying around windows and door frames actually helped more than I expected. Those spots seem to be prime real estate for them.
I started brushing down webs weekly even when I wasn’t spraying. It seems to annoy them enough that they stop using those spots after a while.
A lot of people forget to treat the lower edges of siding. That’s where spiders hide during the day, especially when it’s hot out.
@LakehouseLiam I did the same thing! Once I kept up with it for a month, the number of webs dropped dramatically. I guess they eventually relocate if the area stays disturbed.
If the problem is worse in certain corners, check for gaps or little holes where insects might be slipping in. Sometimes fixing that reduces the spider traffic overall.
