Best Mouse Traps: What Works, What Fails, and Why

Hi everyone,

I’ve tried quite a few mouse traps already, but honestly I haven’t seen much long-term improvement. Some traps catch one or two mice, but the problem keeps coming back, which makes me question whether the trap itself or how it’s used is the real issue.

I’ve been looking into different types of mouse traps and trying to understand which ones actually work over time, not just on paper.

Some of the options I’ve come across include:

• Electric mouse traps that deliver a quick kill
• Traditional snap traps (both plastic and metal versions)
• Resettable mechanical traps designed for repeated use
• Humane live-capture traps (though I’m unsure how effective they are for ongoing infestations)

What I’m struggling with is figuring out whether certain trap types are genuinely more effective, or if factors like placement, stability, and trigger sensitivity matter more than the trap style itself.

From your experience:

  • Which type of mouse trap has worked best for you long term?
  • Do electric traps actually outperform mechanical ones?
  • Have you found that sturdier or heavier traps make a difference in preventing mice from stealing bait or escaping?

I’d really appreciate hearing any real-world experiences or lessons learned.

Thanks in advance!
