Are Ultrasonic Pest Repellers Safe for Cats?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been looking into ultrasonic pest repellers as an alternative to chemical solutions for controlling pests in my home. I recently adopted a cat and I’m concerned about the safety of these devices around her.

From what I understand, ultrasonic pest repellers emit high-frequency sounds that are supposed to deter pests, but I’m unsure of their effect on pets, especially cats, who are known to have sensitive hearing.

I’ve used ultrasonic pest repellers in my home for a while now, and my cat seems completely unfazed by them. I’ve read that the sound frequencies are often above what cats can hear, but I’d love to see more evidence on this.

Thanks for sharing your experience, NightFlyer3! It’s reassuring to hear that your cat is okay with them. Did you notice any improvement in pest control since using them?

I’m with NightFlyer3 on this one. My cat doesn’t react to the devices either, but I’m skeptical about their effectiveness. Have you seen a difference in pest activity?

I actually installed ultrasonic pest repellents in my garage last summer, and they seemed to work well for keeping mice away. I also have a cat, and she didn’t show any signs of discomfort or stress around the devices.

That’s good to hear, MightyMouser! Did you measure the pest population before and after using the repellers?

I’m curious about how these devices interact with other pets as well. What about dogs or smaller animals?

I’ve read some mixed reviews online. Some people say that while their cats are fine, others claim their pets became anxious. It seems like individual reactions can vary.

That’s interesting, CatCareGuru. Maybe it depends on the sensitivity of the individual cat. Have you found any specific studies on this?

I’d be really interested in that too! The last thing I want is for my cat to feel stressed out because of a pest solution.

If anyone’s curious about alternatives, I’ve had great success with natural deterrents, like peppermint oil or diatomaceous earth. They’re safer for pets and don’t involve any high frequencies.

That’s definitely a good option, SkepticalSue. I’ve tried peppermint oil as well, but I’m always worried about how much to use around my cat. Any tips?

I’d love to know more about those natural alternatives too. Do they keep all pests away, or just specific ones?

There are a few studies that suggest ultrasonic frequencies can stress pets, especially dogs, but less is known about cats. If anyone finds more research, please share!

That makes sense, LindaWild. I’d really like to see more research on this topic. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to our furry friends!

Agreed! The safety of our pets should always come first. If I come across any studies, I’ll definitely post them here.
