Are these lizard droppings?

Hey folks,
I’ve been finding small dark droppings around my windowsill and near the baseboards, mostly in the mornings. At first I thought it was mouse poop, but the shape looks a bit different — some pieces have a white tip on one end.

I don’t actually see any lizards inside, but we do get them around the house outside, especially in warmer months.

Before I panic or call pest control, I’m hoping someone here can help identify what this actually is.

  • Do lizard droppings really look like this?

  • How can you tell them apart from mouse or roach droppings?

  • If it is from lizards, should I be worried or just clean it up?

Appreciate any insight.

That white tip is usually the giveaway. Lizard droppings often have a dark part plus a chalky white end, which is uric acid.

Mouse droppings usually don’t have the white cap. If you’re seeing that consistently, I’d lean toward lizards rather than rodents.

I get these all the time near my porch light. Turns out the light attracts insects, insects attract lizards, and… yeah.

@HomeScanJay If they’re mostly near windows or doors, that also points to lizards. Mice tend to leave droppings along walls and hidden paths.

The good news is lizard droppings are usually less of a health concern than mouse droppings. Still gross, but less risky.

I had the same thing and never actually saw the lizard until weeks later. They can be surprisingly good at hiding.

@BugScopeElla That makes sense. Mine were always under the window frame, never deep inside the room.

If you want to reduce it, cutting back on insects around the house helps a lot. Less food = fewer lizards hanging around.

One thing to check is size. Lizard droppings are usually smaller and more uniform than mouse droppings.

@ToolBoxRyan Agreed. I’d clean it up, seal gaps, and monitor. If it doesn’t increase, it’s usually not a big deal.
