Are Sticky Mouse Traps Poisonous to Cats?

Hey, does anyone know if those sticky mouse traps are safe around cats? I need to get rid of mice but don’t want to risk my fur babies’ health.

I think they’re not technically poisonous, but I read that if a cat gets stuck, trying to free itself might cause stress or injury. So, it’s a bit of a risk.

I agree with FelineFine87. Although there’s no poison on the trap, the sticky substance can be really bad if they ingest it while trying to clean it off their fur.

I never use sticky mouse trap. I only use humane live mouse trap or electric rat trap, which is more safe.

From what I’ve read, most sticky traps don’t contain poison, but the glue itself can be dangerous if a cat gets stuck, it can cause fur loss and stress.

@CatMom85 exactly, it’s not “toxic” but definitely harmful. Removing glue from fur or paws can be a nightmare.

I usually recommend avoiding sticky traps in homes with cats. There are enclosed snap traps or electronic traps that are way safer for pets.

My cat once brushed against one. No poison, but it took olive oil and a lot of patience to get the glue off. Definitely not fun.

People sometimes confuse sticky traps with bait traps. Sticky ones are usually just adhesive, while baited traps can contain toxic chemicals.

Has anyone tried those catch-and-release boxes instead? They’re mess-free and no danger to cats or dogs.

@WhiskerWatcher Oh man, same experience here! Olive oil worked best for me too. Peanut butter didn’t do the trick.

Even without poison, sticky traps can still injure animals. If you have curious pets, I’d put them out of reach or just skip them.

I’ve seen vets say the glue itself isn’t toxic if licked in small amounts, but it can cause stomach upset. Better safe than sorry.

If you must use sticky traps, try placing them inside a box with entry holes too small for a cat.
