Are Fleas Attracted to Light?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been doing some research on fleas lately because of a pesky infestation at home. I stumbled upon a claim that fleas are attracted to light. However, I’ve seen conflicting information about their behavior and habitat preferences.

I’ve always thought fleas preferred dark spots! They seem to hang around in carpets and pet bedding. I’d say they’re usually looking for hosts rather than light.

That’s super interesting, EarthFriendlyTom! While I’m not an expert, I’ve read that certain types of fleas can be attracted to light, especially during their jumping stages. But overall, they do prefer the dark.

Yeah, I’ve heard that! Plus, light traps are more effective for other bugs like moths and mosquitoes. Fleas are a totally different ball game.

I agree with CatCareGuru and BugByte. Fleas are often more of a nuisance in shaded areas. If you want to get rid of them, I recommend vacuuming frequently and washing your pet’s bedding in hot water.

Fleas are definitely annoying! I’ve found using diatomaceous earth around the house really helps. You might want to consider that if you haven’t already.

For sure! It’s all about finding what works best for you and your pet. Thanks for all the tips, everyone!

Thanks for the responses, everyone! It seems like we all agree on their preference for dark, cozy spots. I’ve also heard about the effectiveness of essential oils in repelling fleas. Has anyone tried that?

Yes, I’ve tried using lavender! It helps a bit, but I still think the best approach is regular cleaning and vacuuming.

Cedar chips sounds cool! I would be a bit cautious about any remedies, though. Some pets can be sensitive to certain oils. Always check before using anything!

I’ve heard about using cedar chips, too. They’re supposed to repel fleas naturally. Just sprinkle some around your pet’s sleeping area!

Great point,NatureLover64! Always do a patch test with any new products. Better safe than sorry!
