Ants in the bathroom are driving me nuts — any easy fixes?

Hi all,
Lately I’ve been dealing with ants constantly showing up in my bathroom — along the sink, near the tub, even around the toilet base. I don’t keep food in there, so I’m confused why they’re so interested. I’ve wiped them away multiple times, but they just keep coming back.

Before I go nuclear with chemicals, I’m hoping to hear:

  • What usually attracts ants to bathrooms?
  • Are there any quick fixes that actually work?
  • At what point is it more than a simple DIY problem?

Appreciate any advice.

Bathrooms are a big moisture source. Even tiny leaks or condensation can draw ants in, especially during hot or dry weather.

I had the same issue last summer. Turned out ants were coming up through a crack near the baseboard. Sealing that up helped more than sprays ever did.

If they’re near the sink, check for soap residue. Some ants are weirdly attracted to scented soaps and toothpaste.

Agree with @SafePawsOnly moisture is usually the real problem. Once I fixed a slow drip under the sink, the ants disappeared within days.

Temporary fixes like vinegar wipes work, but they don’t stop the source. You’ll keep seeing ants unless you break the trail or block entry points.

I tried ant bait stations near the bathroom door instead of inside the room. That way they took it back to the nest, and the traffic slowed way down.

Check the caulking around your tub and toilet. Mine looked fine at first, but there were gaps just big enough for ants.

Peppermint oil helped for me, but only as a short-term deterrent. It made the bathroom smell nice, at least.

Once ants find a water source, they’re persistent. Cleaning alone didn’t cut it for me, sealing and baiting together finally worked.

This sounds minor now, but bathroom ants can be a sign of a bigger colony nearby. Catching it early saves a lot of hassle later.
