Where Do Carpet Beetles Actually Come From in Homes?

Hi everyone,

I recently started dealing with carpet beetles and I’m trying to understand how they even got into my home in the first place. I keep things pretty clean, so it’s confusing to suddenly find larvae and shed skins around.

Do they usually come from outside, or are they brought in somehow? I’ve seen some people mention things like open windows, clothing, or even plants.

For those who’ve dealt with this before — where did yours actually come from, and how did you figure it out?

Most of the time they come from outside and get in through windows or doors.

I brought them in unknowingly on some old clothes.

They can also hitch a ride on furniture or secondhand items.

@CleanLivingMia same here. It was stored fabric that caused it for me.

They’re attracted to light, so open windows are a common entry point.
