I’ve had luck with DIY solutions! Essential oils like lavender and peppermint seem to repel them effectively. I mix a few drops of each with water and spray it around the affected areas. Just a warning though, it may take a few applications.

@CatCareGuru, I haven’t had any issues with damage so far! Just ensure you do a patch test on a hidden area first. Also, vacuuming regularly really helps too!

I’ve read that using a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can suffocate the larvae. Just sprinkle baking soda on the infested areas, let it sit for a few hours, and then vacuum it up.

I used boric acid dust along baseboards and around rugs, the larvae dropped off within hours. Then vacuumed everything up.

@FabricFixerFrank Good suggestion, for items that can’t be washed, I sealed them in plastic bags and froze them for 48 hours. That did the trick for me.

Empty and vacuum the closet or storage zone. Eggs and larvae hide in seams, folds and behind walls. Cleaning immediately makes any treatment far more effective.

After cleaning, store in airtight containers with cedar or PDB strips. That helps prevent re-infestation even after you kill the current beetles.

Waiting too long. If carpet beetle damage is already widespread, DIY treatments slow things down. At that point professional intervention is often the ‘instant kill’ route.
